In conversation with Michael Connelly about "The Proving Ground."
Hello, hungry people.
Just a quick post before we sit down tomorrow (Saturday., Nov. 8) with Michael Connelly to chat about his latest Lincoln Lawyer novel, The Proving Ground.
The event will take place at 2 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble on Colonial Drive in Orlando. If you’re in the area and would like to join us, here are the details.
If you can’t make it, no worries. We’ll be live-streaming our conversation here at Bob’s Diner.

The Proving Ground is a great read and it couldn’t be timelier. It deals with AI and the threat it holds for young people.
The book was inspired, in part, by the tragic 2024 suicide of an Orlando teenager that was prompted by conversations with a chatbot. The boy’s mother has filed suit against the chatbot’s developer. It’s the first-ever case in a U.S. federal court in which an artificial-intelligence firm is accused of causing the death of one of its users.
If you’d like to learn more, Scott Maxwell of the Orlando Sentinel wrote a fine piece that appeared last year. Here’s a link that will let you slip past the Sentinel’s paywall: Her 14-year-old son fell in love with a chatbot, then killed himself to be with ‘her’
