I thought I’d spend the day figuring out how to lure people to my Substack …
But decided to dance with wild abandon instead.

Today’s recommendations from the Head Cook:
Find yourself a tabebuia tree and sit under it for awhile.
Martin Anderson, the former owner of The Orlando Sentinel, was so fond of the trees that back in the 1960s he sponsored a tabebuia giveaway. All 6,000 trees were gone in a day.
So we have a boatload of these beauties around here. No matter what’s going on in the world, they always lift me up.
It’s the tail end of the tabebuia season in these parts, but there are still worthy trees showing off.
For you in other climes, a flowering tree of some sort will soon be coming into bloom.
Spend some time with one.
Consider the words of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
In his “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” yellow flowers or butterflies are always floating down on the residents of Macondo.Said Marquez: “Nothing awful can happen to me if there are yellow flowers around. To be absolutely safe, I need yellow flowers … and to be surrounded by beautiful women.”
Hear, hear …Seek out a bottle of Ron Maestro Gabo.
It’s a Colombian rum dedicated to Marquez’s memory. Evaporation seems to have gotten the better of my bottle.
Still, it’s a delight to sip while sitting under a tabebuia tree.
Thanks for dropping by. See you back here soon.
We’ve got a fairly young yellow t tree but it bloomed with heart this year.
